Ringside, "Struggle" Morningwood, "Nth Degree" Loveninjas, "Keep Your Love"
Check out this post from a few weeks ago for the Loveninjas MP3.
Tonight I'm staying in and watching The O.C. (Marissa's little sister is back, and she's a naughty schoolgirl), because I have a busy weekend ahead of me, with dance nights (including my own, of course) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Overheard on the street earlier today, said by a man passing an attractive, curvy woman: "Whatcha gonna with all that junk, all that junk inside that trunk?" The apocalypse is near.

I haven't made it to iPod Jukebox the last few times, but I'm going to do my best to change that tonight, now that I'm almost recovered from the plague. I love breathing!
I don't know what's going on my iPod for tonight, but I've been listening to a Seattle band called The Sea Navy, so that's a possibility. The Sea Navy are led by Jay Cox, who moved to Seattle from Boston, where he played in a band called The Ivory Coast. He's joined by former Aqueduct drummer Andrew Rudd. The clangy, jangly, punk sounds remind me of Ted Leo and a little bit of Hot Hot Heat.
You can download the rest of the Breathing in the Old World album here.
At DC 9 tonight: Gist, playing with Third Programme, Len Bias and Landlord.
Oops, almost forgot! Submissions for this year's Six Points Music Festival are due soon. Like, Sunday soon. The festival takes place April 6-8 in venues around D.C. and VA, including Staccato, The State Theater, DC 9, Velvet Lounge and Galaxy Hut, and showcases primarily local acts.

My friend CS just pointed me to a site called Woot. Their motto is "One Day, One Deal," which they explain as: "We sell one item per day until it is sold out or until 11:59pm central time when it is replaced." Read more about the way it works here.
After a brief summary of how the site works, CS writes: "But the coolest part is the way they’re trying to sell today’s item. A toaster."
Not surprisingly, they have a blog (Woot, not the toaster kittens.)

Today is a very special day: the one year anniversary of bluestate. Sure, the party isn't until this weekend, but it was on January 8, 2005, that three friends and I first stepped behind the decks at the Black Cat [although technically, for me, it was January 9, because I didn't go on until 1 a.m.]. Did I think that I'd get a chance to DJ again? I had no idea. Did I expect to still be doing it a whole year later? Not really. Did I know how many great people I'd meet through DJing? Certainly not. Thanks to bluestate, 2005 was spent making fantastic friends, discovering amazing bands and wearing silly outfits, dangerously high heels and too much blue eyeshadow.
To celebrate our anniversary, I've gone through ever single one of my bluestate setlists and made a list of my favorites, i.e., songs that made me the most happy when I played them at the parties. They're listed in no particular order. I'm sticking to songs released in 2005, because you already know that ABBA, Blondie and The Ramones make me happy. Oh, and I decided to stop myself at 55 60, which wasn't easy.

Lessons learned while compiling this list:
1. Over the past year, I queued up 337 songs.
2. The bands I played the most were ABBA, Annie, Blondie, Caesars, Franz Ferdinand, Gwen Stefani, Hot Hot Heat, Le Sport, Maximo Park, New Order, The Ramones, The Raveonettes and Shout Out Louds.
3. The only reason "Since U Been Gone" didn't make the list is because it was released in 2004.
4. Using Excel to compile a list for your blog makes you feel like a huge nerd.
An enormous thank you goes out to everyone who supported bluestate in our first year. Whether you told me about a new band I should check out, came to one of our parties or danced on the stage at the Black Cat, your enthusiasm has been invaluable. As obvious as it sounds, there wouldn't be a bluestate without you. See you on Saturday!
